How Does Chiropractic Work?
Your spinal column is made up of 24 moveable vertebrae, the sacrum and the coccyx. The column houses the spinal cord through which nerves are transmitted to the rest of your body. Whilst the spinal column maintains the correct alignment, nerve information is passed accurately.
However if any part of your spinal column becomes misaligned then a nerve may become impinged, compressed or stretched, distorting the information that passes along it. This can lead to pain, discomfort or restricted mobility.
A chiropractor manipulates the spine and joints of the body to realign the skeletal frame. This aims to restore normal alignment and motion which relieves the effects on joints, reduces muscles spasms and ensures nerve signals flow freely around the body. Chiropractors use their hands to make an ‘adjustment’ directly to the bones involved. The key to the success of the adjustments is the speed, dexterity and accuracy with which they are performed. Through these subtle adjustments, chiropractic treatment can relieve pain and provide a route to better health.
