What to expect from your first treatment
Your first session will be approximately 60 minutes long. First, we will get to know you by asking you some questions to assess why you have come to the clinic and how we can meet your expectations. We'll also ask about your general health and previous conditions.
Step two Physical examination
With your consent we will conduct a physical examination. This includes neurological and orthopaedic testing. This helps us gain further information about your body, discover any issues, identify whether it is safe for us to proceed and provide you with a full explanation of the results.
Step three: Agreeing a plan
From your history and examination, a working diagnosis of your condition, a prognosis and a proposed treatment plan will be created. At this stage it may be determined that some extra medical diagnostics are needed so a referral to an appropriate professional may be necessary to give you the best possible care. Chiropractors recognise the value and responsibility of working in cooperation with other healthcare professionals when in the best interests of the patient. However, the great majority of cases are suitable for immediate chiropractic care and treatment will usually begin at this first appointment. Once you are satisfied with this plan and have had any questions or concerns addressed we can proceed with a treatment.
A treatment plan may also include soft tissue techniques (e.g. stretches or massage), acupuncture, measures to manage pain, exercises for specific tight or weak muscles, and also advice about posture, correct lifting and exercises.
